Mark Zuckerberg revealed in a recent interview that he plans to place artificial intelligence ahead of Meta‘s programming by 2026.
The statement was made on the evening of Tuesday (29) during LlamaCon, Meta’s first conference for AI developers, in a panel with Zuckerberg and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
At the end of the presentation, Meta’s CEO asked Nadella how much of Microsoft‘s code is currently written by AI, to which he replied: “Maybe 20 to 30 percent of the code in our repositories today.”
“Some of our projects are probably entirely written by [AI] software,” Nadella added. When asked the same question, Zuckerberg said his expectations for the future are even greater.
Although he admitted he didn’t know the current numbers offhand, Zuckerberg stated: “Our bet is that next year… maybe half of development will be done by AI instead of people, and it will increase from there.”
The trend of using AI to generate lines of code seems to be spreading among the world’s top big tech companies. Google CEO Sundar Pichai recently revealed that AI generates about a quarter of the company’s code.
However, it’s worth noting that in most cases, AI is being used to boost programmers’ productivity rather than completely replace humans.
